Autumn is Flashing a Little Color

You see that? All around town? Some of the trees are starting to give us a little fall tease. I have been out in the country-side showing homes to a variety of clients looking for that ‘escape from the city’ type property and the colors are starting to pop on some trees. Other trees are just now starting to turn from summery green to the gorgeous hues of Autumn. We had a mild summer as far as temperatures go and I imagine that may translate into a gorgeous display of autumn as we move into the month of October. The trees are less stressed with mild summers and I am hoping for one of those breathtaking fall events this year.

If it is a better than average “light show” I’ll be heading out to the gorge for a weekend to soak it all up. Many people lament the change of season from the warm summers with those long afternoons that linger into the nine o’clock hour to these shallow days with chilly nights and an increase in showers. But mother nature eases us into the long dark winter with a natural show that is unrivaled in all the Western US. When that Columbia River Gorge ‘catches fall fire’ the colors and the majesty of that great landscape will give nearly anyone a moment of pause to ponder the meaning of the universe.

Tonight many ‘Couvians’ will watch our two major party candidates duke it out on the national stage in the first of the televised debates. Many feel that our choices this time ’round are less than ideal, but regardless of whom you support it all pales under the mighty grandeur of nature. It matters not whether you find it providence of God or credit the random chance of molecular alignment billions of years ago. How can our petty grievances matter, much when the universe delivers such majesty without hesitation, pause, or care to who governs this tiny little plot on this little blue marble in the great sea of space that is our universe.

Take solace in the fact that God will live on and nature will continue its wonders long after the effects of this silly election cycle are buried in the ash heap of our civilization. When we look at it through the lens of the universe rather than the lenses of our little microcosm we call life, we may find that all this divisive polarization is an impediment to our well-being.

By all means, listen to both candidates, hear their argument with an open mind and clear conscience, then choose the one you find the most compelling. God and nature are forever, we are but a blink of eye in the chasm of time. Win or lose, Democrat or Republican, get the hell over it, and live your life. The USA average lifespan of 78.7 years comes and goes rather fast when you think about it. Make it count and soak up the glorious stuff, don’t sweat the small stuff 🙂

Ah the ‘Couv’ life; it is good.
